Recommendation

Corrects for distance vision only. This is the most popular option. For those under age 40, single vision is the best option.  For those over 40, see our FAQ page on why this may also be the best option for you. 

Corrects for distance and reading only. Nothing in between.  Distance is considered 2 feet or more.  Reading is considered 6 to 12 inches.  With bifocals, you’ll lose that in between range of 12 inches to 2 feet.

For those that have a prescription for both distance and reading, progressive “bifocals” allow you to see every possible range. There is also no visible line.  The downside to progressives is that you have a more limited range of vision in each “zone”. Basic progressives will have less peripheral vision and the transition between each distance of power may be more choppy forcing larger head movements to see objects more clearly.  All progressives require measurements.  Frames will be sent to you first to get measured and will not come with the prescription lenses installed. You then need to send it back to us with measurements for fulfillment of prescription lenses.

Sport Progressive offer a very wide area for distance vision including the best possible peripheral vision.  The areas for intermediate and near are intended more to read a phone or change a flat tire.  The zones will be narrower for the 6 inch to 18 inch range.  Our “Best” progressives feature HD digital free form technology. Progressives require measurements.  Frames will be sent to you first to get measured and will not come with the prescription lenses installed. You then need to send it back to us with measurements for fulfillment of prescription lenses.  If you want the best progressive technology but don’t need to maximize distance (for safety eyewear or other more every day use eyewear), please let us know and we can make that switch for you.

High quality, name brand premium lenses. High Impact Resistance, lightweight and thinner than regular plastic lenses.

Tinted gray or brown. Gray is neutral and good for those with light sensitivities and those wanting true color perception. Brown is for high contrast/depth perception but does change color perception.

Transitions lenses change color. Clear indoors and at night, tinted sunglasses outdoors during the day. We currently use Transitions Signature (VII) lenses, the newest generation of Transitions lenses.

Changes color with variable polarization for extra glare control.

Polarized lenses have extra glare filter to control glare from horizontal surfaces such as water, sand, road, etc. Gray is more neutral to  look through and &quot;seems&quot; darker.  Good for spectators at sporting events, deeper water fishing, and those who want the darkest lens possible.

Changes darker than regular Transitions lenses and slightly behind the windshield.

Changes from yellow to olive to dark brown behind a windshield. Polarized filter controls glare.  Great for driving and fishing in shallow water, cycling in and out of shade, watching sports on the sidelines from day to night.

High contrast lens for medium to low light conditions.  Makes things brighter than they appear and gives good contrast for making colors pop.

The Optifog product with TD2 Scratch coating with a 2 year scratch warranty.  Coating is on both sides of the lenses. This fog coating works in conjunction with an activator cloths that last for about a week. There is no distortion or loss of vision with this activator versus other spray or gel type defoggers. This coating can only be added to clear lenses. No tints or photochromic lenses.  

Basic anti-reflective coating to prevent distracting glare off lenses. Higher end (Crizal) anti-glare coating is used when combined with fog coating. Higher end coatings include oleophobic and hydrophobic properties

Higher end Anti-Glare coating that also prevents harmful blue light (HEV) from digital devices and from sand, snow and high altitudes.

Scratch resistant coating with one year warranty against scratches

Aspheric lenses make thicker prescriptions come out cosmetically nicer by causing less lens edge thickness and reducing magnification appearance of plus lens powers.

Backside Anti-fog coating can be used on tinted lenses and mirrored lenses that Optifog coating cannot be used on

Not compatible with fog coatings.  Mirror coating makes lenses a little darker. Color of mirror is purely cosmetic (how it looks from the outside or how people see it on you)

Impact resistance but better clarity than polycarbonate.

Comes with activating drops (one year supply).  Coating stays activated for a few days, and you can rejuvenate the coating with the drops.  Coated on both sides of the lenses (unless you order a mirror or anti-reflective coating--then it is backside only).  Can be added to any tints and mirror coated lenses including photochromics.   If you order a lens that cannot be coated with the specified coating you order, we will substitute for this brand.  

Our basic fog coating is applied only to the backside of the lenses. It doesn't have to be reactivated but lenses will have a sticky surface. Since it is a low end coating, it does have the tendency to break down faster, and when it breaks down, it will create a cloud over the lens making it unusable.  We don't recommend this option, but know customers want a low cost solution and don't like to have to reactivate lenses.   

Backside only fog coating with a front side Anti-Reflective (AR) coating.  Available with clear or Transitions lenses only.  Essilor branded lenses only.  No reactivation needed. 

Anti-Reflective/Anti-Glare coating on front, Fog coating on back.  Can only be added to Shamir Branded lenses which includes Digital Free Form Technology. This is why the price will see much greater than any of the other coatings.  Includes Anti-Reflective Coating. No reactivation needed.
